It's just the two of us celebrating Christmas this year. We don't mind; we can cook the food that we want to eat, and we enjoy each other's company (of course!). This afternoon, we'll start baking the half ham, and I'll begin to prepare the potatoes au gratin. Watch out for the recipe for this classic! The dessert will be something chocolate-y (and I haven't decided what it will be yet) - but we do know we'll be eating dessert with our special port wine that we purchased from a local winery. It's really delicious and it'll be great for celebrating this holiday season. We hope everyone has a great Christmas (for those who celebrate it) and a safe and happy holiday season.
* The first picture was taken a couple of Christmases ago in Las Vegas. We actually went after Christmas, but the decorations were still up at the hotel. We went walking around the boulevard and went into the Bellagio to check out their decor. The polar bear was made out of roses. The decorations were fantastic, but there was a huge crowd!
** This evening I received my new soap mold from the mail! Yes! It's my fiance's Christmas present to me. Since it is a tray mold, it makes 18 same-sized soaps all at once. No more cutting! And, hopefully, not as much ash because this mold isn't as deep as my wooden one. I can make up to 5 lbs. of soap at a time, which is a lot for me. I usually make only ~2 lbs. at any one time. I'm so excited to use it, but I'll probably make a basic lard soap first.
